Fulham open contract talks with Wilson as Jimenez nears free move

Fulham have confirmed they are in contract talks with star forward Harry Wilson, whose current deal at Craven Cottage is set to expire on June 30. The club are desperate to retain the 29-year-old after a career-best season that saw him become their top scorer and the subject of intense interest from a host of Premier League rivals.

Wilson’s contract a priority amid interest and managerial uncertainty

Wilson’s future has become one of the most pressing matters for Fulham as they face a summer of upheaval. The Wales international scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 36 Premier League appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, earning him the club’s player of the season award. His performances have turned him into a feared Premier League forward, valued at around €17 million by Transfermarkt.

That form has inevitably attracted attention. Liverpool, Tottenham, Leeds and Aston Villa have all been linked with a cut-price deal, while the research also identifies Everton, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest as admirers. Aston Villa are currently considered the frontrunners to sign him should he leave.

Wilson has been reluctant to discuss his future publicly during the season. In April, he said: “I feel like because the season from a personal level has been good, I kind of said I just want to concentrate on that. And I feel like any other distractions, I don’t want my form to dip. I don’t want the focus to be on my contract. I want it to be on the team and getting results.”

However, he has since indicated a desire to stay, stating that his “main option would be to sign a new deal at Fulham and hopefully we can get to an agreement on that.” He has also expressed a wish to continue playing in the Premier League and is happy at the club. But the forward has made clear he would prefer clarity on the future of manager Marco Silva before making a final decision.

That clarity has now arrived. Silva is leaving Fulham this summer upon the expiry of his contract to join Benfica, where he will succeed Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager has accepted a lower salary than Fulham offered, prioritising a return to his homeland and the chance to compete for major honours. His deal with Benfica runs until June 2028, with an option for a further year. During his five years at Fulham, Silva delivered a Championship title and four mid-table Premier League finishes, establishing the club as a stable top-flight presence.

Fulham owner Shahid Khan has said the club will appoint a new leader in a “timely but deliberate manner”. Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is reportedly the favourite to succeed Silva, with Thomas Frank and Oliver Glasner also linked.

The board is now pressing ahead with contract talks for Wilson, with manager Silva having previously stated that the club are working with the player’s agent to finalise a deal. Fulham had earlier exercised an option to extend Wilson’s contract until the end of the 2025/26 season, but time is now running short.

Jimenez set for free transfer as others depart

While Wilson remains a priority, Raul Jimenez is heading for the exit. The Mexican striker will leave on a free transfer on June 30 after Fulham decided not to offer him a new contract. The decision, driven by squad planning and a desire to find a younger long-term option at centre-forward, brings an end to his time at the club.

Jimenez joined Fulham in the summer of 2023 on a two-year deal, with an option that was triggered in May 2025 to extend until June 2026. In the season just ended, he made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and adding three assists. He had been the club’s top scorer the previous campaign with 12 goals.

His future is likely to lie elsewhere. Mexican side Club América are said to be preparing an offer to make him their marquee summer signing, and the striker has expressed a desire to return to his boyhood club. A return to former side Wolverhampton Wanderers, who will be playing in the Championship next season, is also a possibility. Everton have also shown interest. However, Jimenez’s priority is understood to be staying in Europe, with an extension in England his favoured outcome.

He will be joined out of the door by a raft of other players whose contracts are expiring. Goalkeeper Steven Benda, defender Devan Tanton, and academy products Bradley De Jesus, Ollie Gofford, Charlie Robinson, Joseph Walters, Tom Wingate, Callum Cliff, Marcell Hall, Ruban Khan, Oliver Mayer, Harley Platel and Quinn Schutter are all leaving the club.

Other contract talks and squad refresh

Away from the headline names, Fulham are also in talks over new contracts with a number of younger players. Samuel Amissah, Jonathan Esenga, Michael Allen, Chibby Nwoko, Tom Olyott, Jayden Quashie and Olly Sanderson are all in discussions with the club.

Options have already been exercised for Kenny Tete, Chris Donnell, Alfie McNally, Olly Sanderson, Devan Tanton, Terrell Works and Chibby Nwoko. Meanwhile, Ryan Sessegnon’s contract has been extended until the end of the 2026/27 season.

The departures of Jimenez and the other fringe players, combined with the managerial change, point to a significant reshaping of the squad this summer. But securing Harry Wilson’s future remains the immediate priority for Fulham as they attempt to fend off a queue of Premier League suitors for their star forward.
