Pochettino and De Zerbi tipped for Tottenham post over Xavi

Tottenham Hotspur have moved to make a managerial change following a home defeat to West Ham United and a 2-2 draw at Burnley last month, despite initially intending to back the incumbent, according to The Standard.

Roberto De Zerbi has become the new bookmakers’ favourite for the role after quitting his job at Marseille, with his odds significantly shortening in the market.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is also a leading contender for a sensational return, as he prepares to lead the United States into a home World Cup this summer. Pochettino spent five years at Tottenham between 2014 and 2019, building the club’s best team in recent memory and guiding them to a runners-up spot in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season.

Ex-Spurs striker Robbie Keane is in the frame, having impressed in management with Hungarian side Ferencvaros after a spell in charge of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Oliver Glasner, who was the initial favourite last month, has seen his odds drift after confirming he will stay at Crystal Palace for the rest of the season.

Other candidates include Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez, while outside options feature Xabi Alonso following his exit from Real Madrid, Fulham manager Marco Silva whose future at Craven Cottage is in doubt, and former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

Ruben Amorim, who recently left Manchester United, and Michael Carrick, who replaced him at Old Trafford, are also figuring prominently in the betting, along with Andoni Iraola and Kieran McKenna.
