13-year-old faces attempted murder charge over stabbing of two at Brent school

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with a stabbing at a school in north-west London, as noted by The Independent.

The incident occurred at Kingsbury High School in Brent around 12.40pm on Tuesday, when emergency services were called after reports that two students had been stabbed. Two boys, aged 12 and 13, were taken to hospital with stab wounds and remain there in a stable condition.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to be a former pupil who used his school uniform as a disguise. He was arrested hours after the incident and has also been charged with unlawfully and maliciously administering a noxious thing, after allegedly spraying insect spray in the face of a third child, and possession of a knife on school premises.

He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Youth Court on Thursday morning.

The Metropolitan Police stated that their investigation into the shocking incident is ongoing and is being handled by a counter-terrorism team due to circumstances surrounding the event, but it has not been declared a terrorist incident. Detectives continue to carry out enquiries in the local area.

Commander Helen Flanagan, from Counter Terrorism Policing London, said the charges are extremely serious and that support is being provided to the victims, their families, and the wider school community.

Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan urged anyone with information to contact the police, adding that such violence has no place in the city.
