Man killed, teenager critically injured in skate park knife attack

A man has been murdered and a teenage boy is fighting for his life after a daylight stabbing at a skate park in Northampton. The fatal attack took place at Briar Hill Skate Park on Ringway shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, February 18.

Northamptonshire Police said emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing during an altercation at the park. Despite the efforts of members of the public and paramedics, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene. A teenage boy was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, who is leading the murder investigation, described it as a tragic incident. “Our thoughts are firmly with both their families at this difficult time,” she stated.

Four arrested in connection with fatal attack

Police have arrested four people from Northampton in connection with the investigation. Those in custody are two teenage boys, a man, and a woman.

DCI Harrison confirmed that arrests were made promptly and that inquiries were moving at pace. “We know incidents of this nature can be a cause of concern within the neighbourhood and wider community, and I would like to offer our reassurance that we have a team of dedicated officers working to establish what has happened,” she said.

Cordon remains as police urge public to avoid area

A police cordon remains in place at Briar Hill Skate Park, which is closed to the public until further notice. Several roads in the vicinity are also affected, and people are being urged to avoid the area where possible.

Northamptonshire Police said high-visibility patrols are being deployed to offer reassurance and that house-to-house inquiries are being conducted. The force added that it is working with partner agencies to provide practical and emotional support to those affected.

Appeal for witnesses and footage

Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact them urgently. They are particularly keen to obtain any CCTV, doorbell, or mobile phone footage from the area around the time of the incident.
