Passerby discovers body in park wheelie bin

The discovery of a man’s body inside a council wheelie bin in a Coventry park has sparked a major police investigation, with detectives urgently seeking to piece together how the victim came to be there.
West Midlands Police were called to Cash’s Park, off Daimler Road in the Daimler Green area, at around 5pm on Friday, March 13, 2026, after a member of the public made the grim find.
The man, who has not yet been identified but is believed to be aged between 40 and 50, was found inside a Coventry City Council wheelie bin with a green lid. Officers are now working with the council to trace where the bin was originally located before it was moved to the park.
Police Theory: A Hit-and-Run and Movement of Body
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole of the force’s Major Crime Unit stated that while investigators are keeping an open mind, their current belief is that the man was first hit by a vehicle.
“We believe that this man has been hit by a vehicle and then has been moved to the park,” DCI Poole said. “It’s vital that we trace that person as quickly as possible so that we can get their account of what happened.”
The investigation is now focused on finding the driver involved and understanding the circumstances that led to the body being placed in the bin.
Urgent Appeals for Information
Police have issued a series of specific appeals to the public. They urgently want to hear from anyone who believes they may have hit someone with their car on Friday, March 13.
They are also asking people to consider if they have noticed a change in behaviour from someone they know who drives, or if they have seen unexplained damage to a vehicle. Furthermore, detectives are keen to speak to anyone in the local area who has found their green-lidded wheelie bin stolen.
Authorities are also seeking any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around Cash’s Park and Daimler Road on the day in question. Information can be provided to West Midlands Police via 101, quoting log number 4148 of March 13, or anonymously to Crimestoppers.
Council Bins and Local Context
The green-lidded bin involved is part of Coventry City Council’s waste collection system, used for general refuse collected fortnightly. The council also provides blue-lidded bins for recycling and brown-lidded bins for food and garden waste, and offers repair or replacement services for stolen or damaged bins.
The location of the discovery, Cash’s Park, sits near the historically significant former Daimler factory site on Daimler Road, an area earmarked for a new housing development.
DCI Poole, leading the investigation, is an experienced officer previously involved in other major cases, including the 2020 murder investigation of a baby girl in West Bromwich.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on identifying the victim, locating the driver and vehicle potentially involved, and understanding the journey of the distinctive green-lidded bin from its original location to the park.
