Investigation and road closure

Police sealed off Ilford Lane between Winston Way and Grange Road for more than 24 hours to allow officers to gather evidence at the scene. The road finally reopened around 1pm on Monday, June 15.

The closure caused significant disruption to local bus services. Routes 169, EL1 and SL2 were placed on diversion while the investigation was under way.

The incident took place in broad daylight on a busy commercial street lined with shops and homes. Residents and business owners in the area have voiced alarm. One beauty salon owner said the prolonged road closure was “definitely affecting the business”. An employee described the stabbing as “very scary” and said it felt as though the violence was “targeting the community here”. An elderly woman said she disliked the situation and now had to walk a longer route to reach a local shop.
