North London man faces charges over sexual assaults on two women

A 40-year-old north London man faces prosecution for a series of alleged sexual assaults on two women, with the reported incidents spanning an eight-year period.
Simon Levy, of Beaufoy Road in Tottenham, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration. He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The Charges and Legal Definitions
The charges relate to two separate alleged incidents, reported to have occurred in 2017 and 2025, involving two different women. In legal terms, sexual assault is defined under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 as intentional sexual touching without consent, where the perpetrator does not reasonably believe the victim consents. This can include touching with any part of the body or an object.
The more serious charge of sexual assault by penetration, defined under Section 2 of the same Act, involves the intentional penetration of the vagina or anus by a body part or object without consent and carries the same maximum penalty as rape.
Ongoing Major Investigation
These new charges form part of a wider, joined investigation by the Metropolitan Police into Simon Levy. He is already facing multiple other serious charges, including the murders of two women and a separate alleged rape.
Levy was charged with the murder of 53-year-old Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, whose body was found in South London in March 2025, and with the murder of 39-year-old Sheryl Wilkins, discovered in Tottenham in August 2025. A trial for the former case is set for June 2026 at the Old Bailey.
In a separate Tottenham incident from January 2025, he faces charges including two counts of rape, grievous bodily harm, and intentional suffocation against another woman. The Met is treating all these cases as a single investigation.
CPS Decision to Prosecute
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) stated it has authorised the prosecution on the sexual assault charges following Metropolitan Police investigations into the 2017 and 2025 incidents. Lisa Ramsarran from the CPS said prosecutors had worked to establish that there was sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it was in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
Ramsarran has previously held the role of Senior District Crown Prosecutor responsible for Rape and Serious Sexual Offences. The CPS has been working to improve the volume of sexual abuse and rape cases reaching court, focusing on early advice between investigators and prosecutors.
Broader Context of Sexual Offences
The case comes amid ongoing national scrutiny of how sexual offences are reported and prosecuted. Recent statistics suggest an estimated 7.7 million people aged 16 and over in England and Wales have experienced sexual assault since the age of 16, with unwanted sexual touching being the most common form.
However, prosecution and conviction rates remain low. For example, fewer than 3 in 100 rapes recorded by police in 2024 resulted in a charge that same year. Victim withdrawal is a significant factor in case attrition, alongside police decisions to take no further action. The legal process for victims can be lengthy and re-traumatising, often involving significant delays.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where Levy will make his initial appearance, handles preliminary hearings for serious cases before they may be sent to the Crown Court. Proceedings there typically conclude by 4:30 pm.
