Six detained after teenager’s hand severed at house party

Merseyside Police are investigating a brutal assault that left an 18-year-old man with a “potentially life-changing” injury after his hand was severed with a bladed weapon during a birthday party in Huyton, with the case now passed to the Crown Prosecution Service for review.

Severe Attack at Birthday Party

The incident occurred during an 18th birthday party at a home on Colin Close, unfolding on the night of Friday, September 26, and into the early hours of Saturday, September 27. The victim, an 18-year-old man, had his hand sliced “clean off” before he ran across the road shortly after midnight, seeking refuge in the Stanley Arms pub on Roby Road. A 17-year-old also sustained a minor hand injury during the same incident and received treatment afterwards, according to police accounts.

Witnesses described the victim entering the pub with “part of his arm hacked off,” moments before the establishment was due to lock its doors. “There was blood everywhere and the pub was seconds away from locking the doors when he ran in,” one witness said. Pub staff provided assistance, and the premises remained closed the following day for professional cleaning.

Neighbours reported chaos in the aftermath, with doors of the home “burst open” as people fled the property. One resident noted an 18th birthday banner on the front door and observed a large group of over 10 young people in an alleyway behind the houses around midnight. In the days that followed, dried blood was visible on the door frame and doorstep of the property on Colin Close as police worked at the scene.

Six Arrested in Investigation

As of late November 2025, six people had been detained in connection with the attack, all on police bail pending further inquiries. Merseyside Police arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and wounding with intent. A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, and a third man, aged 18, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and released on conditional bail.

In a separate development in November 2025, three 17-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in relation to the attack.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Inspector Graeme Osborne of Merseyside Police stated, “Knife crime can have fatal consequences and devastates families and communities.” The force confirmed the assault involved a bladed weapon and resulted in a “potentially life-changing” injury. Police have appealed for witnesses, CCTV footage, and any other images from those present at the party or living nearby to come forward.

The investigation continues, with all six individuals arrested remaining on bail as the Crown Prosecution Service reviews the case.
