The man, named in some reports as Wesam Rida Fathi Miqdad (also referred to as Wesam Mekdad), is a Palestinian from Gaza who was reportedly facing deportation proceedings and had been subject to an entry ban. Social media posts attributed to him claim Dutch authorities viewed him as a danger to public order and sought to deport him to Egypt. The woman stated that her husband had been informed shortly before the incident that his brother had been killed in Gaza, leaving him under immense emotional distress and allegedly leading to a television set being destroyed.
